Tis the Season to Give

Our HGPD Senior Program isn’t only about taking photos for their senior year. Over the years I have realized that there is a need to help encourage our youth to help in the community more and do good for others without anything in return. There are not many volunteer opportunities made easy for seniors which can always come in handy when applying for scholarships and college applications. I wanted to take this group of girls who I am incredibly proud of and show them how amazing it can feel to give back to others and help people in need.

After working with several local businesses in town and school counselors we were able to find 2 families to GIVE CHRISTMAS to this year. I gave the girls the option to be involved or not and am incredibly thankful to those who helped out. We not only bought gifts and food for these families we budgeted our money, took the time to use it very wisely and more importantly WORK TOGETHER 🙂 It was an amazing experience I believe they won’t forget and look forward to doing more together as a group throughout the year.

All in all we were able to help 11 children. We chose to buy winter coats, shoes, mittens/gloves, several shirts and pants, underwear and socks. We then used a portion of the budget for groceries that would be useful throughout the next several months. With our leftover money we bought little toys each of them to remind them how special they are. I was reminded how special something so small can be so empowering and joyful. We delivered each family their gifts personally, this was an important part of what we were doing because I wanted to girls to be able to experience that feeling of joy when we help others. I can’t put into works how grateful I am for everyone who helped make this happen. Christmas is such BUSY time of year it’s easy to forget to slow down and do something nice for others. Tis the season for giving.

I included my children in the project as well. While we were shopping they had the opportunity to back cookies so when they arrived to the families homes they brought them some yummy Christmas cookies. It’s the little things that make a difference. Remembering how good we have it and encouraging others to do good. Hope everyone had a WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
